Writer // Tom Sturges

Tom Sturges is Executive Vice President - Head of Creative at Universal Music Publishing Group.  In this role he manages the creative team, develops and partners new talent acquisitions, and creates marketing and exploitation programs that benefit the continuing career development of the writers, writer/artists and writer/producers signed to the UMPG family.  He has been part of several signings including: Foo Fighters, 50 Cent, Owl City, Jamie Foxx, Stone Temple Pilots, Sean Garret (“The Pen”), 3 Doors Down, Jack Johnson, Swizz Beats, Vanessa Carlton, Polow Da Don, and Chris Brown. Previously he held the position of VP/GM of Shaquille O’Neal’s Twism Records, and before that President of Chrysalis Music, USA.  He is a recognized volunteer and has received 40 awards from civic and national leaders for his work with inner city public school children, documented in the award-winning film Witness To A Dream.  He has been an active supporter and fundraiser for City of Hope for 20 years.  He is a voting member and former trustee of NARAS.  Mr. Sturges graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Music, and continued his graduate work in music at UCLA.  His first book, Parking Lot Rules & 75 Other Ideas for Raising Amazing Children, was published by Random House (2008), and has been translated into Turkish and Chinese.  His second book, Grow The Tree You Got & Other Ideas for Raising Amazing Adolescents and Teenagers, will be published by Tarcher/Penguin (2011).  He is the first Executive-in-Residence at the Clive Davis School of Recorded Music at NYU.
