Barry is a screenwriter and director. He recently directed his first feature film FROM OTHER WORLDS a science fiction comedy starring Cara Buono, Issach De Bankole, Melissa Leo and David Lansbury. It has been shown at a dozen film festivals around the world.
Barry started in the film business as a production assistant and location scout on major films in NYC. He was able to observe some great directors at work, including: Milos Forman, Peter Bogdanovich, and Woody Allen.
Barry became a professional screenwriter when he co-wrote MARRIED TO THE MOB. MOB was directed by Jonathan Demme and featured Michelle Pfeiffer in her first starring role. The film received several major film critics awards. It made the New York Times Ten Best List. Michelle Pfeiffer was nominated for a Golden Globe. Dean Stockwell was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
He next co-wrote SHE DEVIL directed by Susan Seidelman and starring Meryl Streep who was nominated for a Golden Globe.
He has written many other projects for the major studios for Michelle Pfeiffer, Alan Pakula, Bette Midler, Larry Brezner, Gene Wilder, Martin Short, Joe Pesci, and Laura Ziskin.
Barry’s short, THE TRANSFORMATION, a comedy he wrote and directed, has won awards at the Newport International, New Orleans, Mill Valley, Crossroads and Stony Brook Film Festivals.
