Dan Kazemi

Dan Kazemi is a composer, orchestrator, music director, pianist, performer and educator. Dan's original music has been performed at the World Festival of the Circus of Tomorrow (Paris), the A.W.A.R.D. Show (Philadelphia) and in 213 Productions collaborations (Untitled Project #213 & Your Attention Please!). Dan recently premiered a ballet adaptation of Shel Silverstein's The Missing Piece for Ballet Fleming. In Philadelphia, Dan most recently musically directed the world premiere musical, Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk’s Flash of Time, commissioned by the PIFA Festival. He also orchestrated and musically directed the world premiere of Tulipomania at the Arden Theatre Company. As an Associate Artist at Milwaukee Rep, Dan has helped pioneer the Rep's new musical programming with recent productions of A Christmas Carol, Next to Normal, Always’s Patsy Cline, Cabaret, Assassins, and was an actor and instrumentalist in Blues in The Night. Dan musically directed Tick, Tick...Boom!, Austentatious, the PhillyRocks! concerts, The World Goes Round (Barrymore nominee), Reefer Madness, Little Shop of Horrors, Rooms, and The Great American Trailer Park Musical for 11th Hour Theatre Company. He also garnered a Helen Hayes nomination for his work on the DC premiere of The Musical of Musicals: The Musical, a Barrymore nomination for The Flea and The Professor (Arden Theatre Company), and received a Barrymore Award for 11th Hour’s Avenue X. At the Walnut Street Theatre, Dan musically directed, arranged and performed in The Irish and How They Got That Way (2 Barrymore nominations). Dan is also composer of a promising, hilarious new musical The Tapioca Miracle.

Dan Kazemi’s musical direction is masterful and makes Sondheim’s very difficult score fly effortlessly through the actors and the orchestra.
