John Todd, a native of the Carolina’s, received his training at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts. Taking his training into the world, John has directed and choreographed numerous commercials, industrials, musicals, and has worked on many television and stage shows, garnering much attention for his unique and innovative style. His most recent experiences include directing A Year of Living Dangerously at 54 Below in NYC, West Side Story, Kiss Me Kate, and Company for the Athens Epidaurus Festival and creating chorography for an IKEA National commercial and multiple episodes of Days Of Our Lives for NBC. StageSceneLA named John Choreographer of the Year for his work on West Side Story (La Mirada Theater for the Arts), Kiss Me Kate (Cabrillo Music Theatre), and The Music Man (Musical Theater West).
Some of John’s other director/choreography credits include over 25 Red Carpet Premieres and Disney stage shows Mary Poppins Returns, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, Incredibles 2, Coco, Star Wars Rogue One, Star Wars The Last Jedi, The Good Dinosaur, Cinderella, Tangled, The Muppets Most Wanted, Sofia The First, Monster’s University, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, The Little Mermaid and Mulan. In addition, he has choreographed commercials for companies such as Scope with Ryan Seacrest and eyewear giant Ray-Ban, as well as musical theater shows And The World Goes Round (Reprise 2.0) Sweet Smell Of Success (Musical Theater Guild), Annie Get Your Gun (SDMT), The Music Man (MTW), Kiss Me Kate (Cabrillo Music Theatre) Sunset Boulevard (MTW), Company (Crown City), Bells Are Ringing, and Anyone Can Whistle (MTW), Jasper In Deadland (PMT), Falsettos, The Full Monty, Bronies, The Musical!, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (Third Street Theater), Gypsy. John also had the opportunity to work as associate choreographer on film and television shows including SMILF, Saving Mr. Banks, Mad Men, About A Boy, Ronna and Beverly, Marvel's Agents of Shield, as well as choreographing the movie musical Samantha Spade Ace Detective. Mr. Todd has also created 3 works for the prestigious Houston Ballet.
John's performing experience is comprised of working with world-renowned companies such as The Hungarian State Ballet, Houston Ballet (where he received the Michael Wasmund Award for most outstanding dancer), Pacific Northwest Ballet, and also as a soloist with Fort Worth Ballet and Hartford Ballet. John’s performance career wasn’t only within the ballet companies. He also performed on Broadway as part of the original cast of the Tony Awarded musical Movin' Out and in Tony Award winning, The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway as well as the national tour. John has also made appearances in the television shows The Last Tycoon, Bourbon Street (series regular), Days of Our Lives, As the World Turns, Sex and the City, and Law and Order as well as films including Jack the Giant Slayer, The Muppets, Gnomio and Juliet, Alpha and Omega, Jackass Number Two, A Christmas Carol, Sironia, and Spells (with John Lithgow). Furthermore, Mr. Todd was cast as the lead in the Sundance awarded play The Studio, written by Christopher D'Ambois, and shared the stage with Tony and Emmy nominated Terrence Mann. He has experienced the great fortune of performing in numerous venues across Europe, including England where he played the role of "Peter Quince" in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Sadler's Wells in London, and “Romeo" in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet for German Television. In addition to John’s successful performance career, he has had the privilege of working with dance legends such as Agnes DeMille, Martha Graham, Nacho Duato, Melissa Hayden, Suzanne Farrell, and Twyla Tharp as well as the celebrated directors Robert Zemeckis and Paul Feig. All of them have taught John a tremendous amount on being well versed in all forms of the Arts, which he continues to utilize in his own career and shares with the next generation of dancers.
